RAD Deaf Camp Walton Firs 5th—8th August 2008

On 5th August 5 RAD staff and 13 deaf youths set up tents at Walton Firs Scout Camp, near Cobham in Surrey. We were lucky and it didn’t rain until we had finished putting the tents up! After dinner we went to Surbiton Raceway for Go Karting. A few of us were a bit nervous at first but soon everyone was whizzing around the track and we had a great time. After breakfast the next day we did photo orienteering and archery, then we learnt basic First Aid from 2 St John’s Ambulance trainers in the afternoon.

After dinner we went to Quayside Lake where we got really wet on their Banana Boats! It was nice to come back to the camp for hot chocolate and sit around the campfire.

On Thursday we went to Chessington World of Adventure all day. On the way back we split into two groups to buy food for cooking on our barbeque that evening. We each had a £20 budget and we had to agree what we would buy to cook later.

On the last day we got up early, packed away the tents, tidied up the campsite and said goodbye to everyone!!
